Ego-documents of the Siberian Indigenous Peoples in the Context of the Great Patriotic War

This publication continues the authors’ research within the framework of the scientific project of the State Public Scientific Technological Library of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. In this work the authors focus on studying the document flow of ego-documents of the indigenous peoples of Siberia (publications and Internet resources). We conducted the study using materials from the largest regional bibliographic database “Nauchnaya Sibirika” with the involvement of missing sources from the catalogues of a number of large libraries.

For studying the Great Patriotic War history, the testimonies of direct participants and eyewitnesses of the events of the war years are of great impor tance. The purpose of the article is to give a comprehensive description of doc uments of personal origin (memoirs, diaries, letters) reflecting the participa tion of Siberians (soldiers and home front workers) in the Great Patriotic War. The article designates these documents by the generalizing term “egodocu ments”, generally accepted in the social sciences and humanities.

The purpose of the article is to provide an overview of the modern practice of publishing military ego-documents (memoirs, diaries, correspondence). Over the past 30 years of post-Soviet history, this process, according to the observations of the author of the article, has gone through two stages.
