Н. В. Лопатина The article is dedicated to the memory of the outst anding Russian scholar Rujero Sergeevich Gilyarevsky (1929–2025). The author applies the classical methods of historical research. She emphasizes R. S. Gilyarevsky's contribution to the library and information sciences and his influence on the middle-aged generation of researchers. The author also analyzes the scholar's views on the role of the book in the transient world. The article comprises the author's personal memories of R. S. Gilyarevsky.
