The author analyzes the scientific legacy of Arkady Sokolov, an outstanding Russian information scientist, bibliographer, and philosopher. She follows the evolution of scholar’s theoretical concepts in the context of history and philosophy of library and information sciences. The article is based on the analysis of Sokolov’s key works, i. e. the textbook «The introduction into social communication theory”, professional conceptual publication “The philosophy of information”, his theses, and program articles. The purpose of the article is to study the written sources appeared as a result of activities of the Buryat- Mongolian State Institute of Culture - the successor of the Buryat- Mongolian scientific committee and kept now in the Centre of Oriental manuscripts and xylographs of the Institute for Mongolian, Buddhist and Tibetan Studies of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

The Library for Natural Science of the Russian Academy of Sciences embraces publications from the Library of German Chemical Society (Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker). The Library was established all at the same time as the Society, in 1867. The outstanding collection of chemical literature was being developed over decades. The Library was receiving books and journals from Russia owing to close ties between Russian, Soviet and German colleagues.

The role of academician N. K. Nikolsky as the Chairman of the Permanent library Commission of the RAS and simultaneously the Director of the Library of the Academy of Sciences (1920–1925) is traced on the basis of archival materials and published literature.

Based on archival materials and published sources the authors determine the Academician M. A. Dyakonov role as the Chairman of the Permanent Library Commission in the Russian Academy of Sciences (1915-1919) and simultaneously the Director of the Library of the Academy of Sciences (1916-1919).
