The article considers the realization of the censorship control on the activities of the libraries by the administration of the Central-Chernozem region.
Article is devoted to the history of the origin and development of libraries in parish schools of Kostroma province in the late XIX - early XX сentury about which there were no publications in professional publications earlier. The author analyzes the qualitative and quantitative structure of library funds, reveals necessity and influence of libraries on pupils and adult population in the province.
The article identifies the library's ability to stimulate reader activity in the context of the multimedia culture development. It also considers main changes in the library activities as an organizer of reading in multimedia culture including the increase of emphasis on readers, their subjectivity, interaction dialogue forms development, multimedia projects implementation, online services and digital resources introduction, education of readers on literate media behavior and text activity in the Internet.

The article first gives a general view of children reading of fiction in Siberia and the Far East. The relevance of studying children reading is determined by its great social and pedagogical potential. The study objectives are: 1) to identify popular children genres of literature; 2) to recreate the repertoire of favorite authors and their works; 3) to compare the range of reading of Siberian and Far Eastern young people with the reading of their age mates from other regions of the country; 4) to identify main factors forming readers demand of the younger generation.
The article deals with an actual recent problem, which is reading guidance. It considers approaches to the concept of «reading guidance» at all stages of national library science.
The article objective is to trace the process of prison libraries formation and features of their functioning in the XIX century under conditions of changing the Russian penitentiary system evidently for Tobolsk province. The first mention of the libraries is at the beginning of the XIX century. The author shows the book functioning process under prison conditions, its role in prisoners’ life, the first libraries formation as repositories of books and their activity, features of the educational work forms, relationship with the church and school.
Assessing the effectiveness of the library has been and remains an important aspect in making management decisions, planning and development as separate divisions, processes, services and library as a whole. In the current context indicators such estimates are very diverse and widely applied in practice. Some approaches to measuring the efficiency of the library, identifying indicators and to modeling an integrated system of measurement are reviewed.

The problems of interaction between museum and book are considered, their functional similarities and the need for interpenetration, manifested in three main forms (books museums, museum libraries and publishing activities of museums) are revealed. Documental base of museum and book is described.
