The Objects of Libraries as a Communication Channel between Science and Society

The purpose of the article is to comprehend the role of libraries in the system of communication between science and society for to reveal and analyze the actual tasks of libraries as the channel of connection between the scientific community and a wide audience. Two interrelated aspects of library participation in the communication between science and society are considered. The first aspect – information and communication – is connected with document communications, in which the boundaries between information transmission channels are blurred.

The goal of the study to recreate the picture of the presence of SaltykovShchedrin’s works in the funds of Siberian and Far Eastern libraries in the late XIX–early XX centuries. Its tasks are: counting the number of volumes with the writer's works and reconstructing the repertoire of his literary work in the libraries of the region in the pre-revolutionary period. The article presents data on 39 libraries operating in 19 cities of Siberia and the Far East – provincial, regional and county centers. The source base consists on 67 printed library catalogs.

Application of artificial intelligence technologies in cataloging: The experience of the National Library of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia)

The experience of implementing artificial intelligence (AI) technologies into cataloging processes at the National Library of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) is discussed. The authors focus on two pilot projects: Yakutia.Online – the system of intellectual web archiving of regional Internet resources, – and the project of AI cataloging of one-part editions. The architecture of systems, stages of automation, mechanisms of semantic processing and bibliographic records verification are described.

The relevance of the topic is due to the wide possibilities of using library funds not only for education and upbringing of an individual, but also for organizing and conducting leisure activities, there providing plays from the fund for amateur performances and special literature to help stage. In some libraries, special theater departments were formed to facilitate the search for such literature. Their study is one of the areas of book culture transformation research in social communications of the 19th – 21st centuries.

To assess the strategy implementation, G. A. The decrease in socio-cultural status of reading and its displacement from the sphere of free time is taking on significant proportions. The purpose of the study is to analyze and display the real picture of reading, in particular teenagers’ one, as well as to identify the possibilities and most promising library projects in the support and development of reading. Special attention in the study of this problem is given to reading in childhood and teenagers (7–15 years), since it is during this period that worldview and mortal guidelines are formed.
