The article is a tribute to Arkady Vasilyevich Sokolov, Russian scientist, professor, Doctor of Science in pedagogy, researcher in the field of librarianship, informatics and social communications theory. Beside the professional relations, there was friendship of many years between Sokolov and the author.
Purpose: To express boundless appreciation to an outstanding personality, scholar, and leader. Methods: Reminiscences, comparative analysis, grief. Conclusions: A. V. Sokolov’s life and work is the patrimony of Russian science and culture, great role model for the library and bibliographic community.
The authors discuss the results of building interreflections (matches) of research specialty codes and GRNTI subject headings based on the comparative intellectual analysis. The current master version of the State Rubricator of Scitech Information (SRSTI, GRNTI) and the verified version of the Higher Attestation Commission (HAC, VAK) are compared.
The author characterizes the contribution of Arkady V. Sokolov into the development of modern library science, bibliography, bibliology, and information science. He focuses on Sokolov’s understanding of the library as the core of library humanism and significance of this social institution within Russian civilization. His professional and friendly communication with colleagues is represented by his publications. A. V. Sokolov’s personality makes science golden legacy.
The author shares personal impressions of A. V. Sokolov she got during her professional training (specialist’s and postgraduate programs), in dissertation committee for doctor’s thesis. She appraises Sokolov’s science work and pedagogical talent and his personality influence on the author’s professional career as a researcher and lecturer.
Altmetric methods enable to facilitate assessing research results on the basis of their citations and use by other users. The author addresses Current Research Information Systems (CRIS) as the core resources to reflect research output of individual research institutions. The purpose of her study is to analyze the experience of applying altmetrics in foreign CRIS. Besides, she reviews the studies in altmetrics and characterizes in brief altmetric indicators and their providers.
Our contemporary Arkady Vasilyevich Sokolov (1934–2023) specialized in many disciplines within the documentology sphere, namely library science, bibliography, informatics, noocommunicology, etc., and documentology, in particular. The author focuses on this aspect of Sokolov’s work. His interest in documentology raised naturally from informatics, with his starting point in 1962. Professionally engaged in information search, Sokolov explored the nature of information, which finally culminated in the monograph “The philosophy of information” in 2010.
The author analyzes the scientific legacy of Arkady Sokolov, an outstanding Russian information scientist, bibliographer, and philosopher. She follows the evolution of scholar’s theoretical concepts in the context of history and philosophy of library and information sciences. The article is based on the analysis of Sokolov’s key works, i. e. the textbook «The introduction into social communication theory”, professional conceptual publication “The philosophy of information”, his theses, and program articles. Scientific knowledge propagation is among the key functions of the Common Scientific Knowledge Digital Space (CSKDS), and the virtual exhibitions (VE) as an efficient instrument enable to accumulate heterogeneous scientific information on phenomena, events or scholars. The authors discuss the general issues and principles of VE organization, content selection, VE structure and main sections. Three VE types are specified, namely autonomous, remote and combined VE. Selection and content structuration methods are proposed for each of the types.
