Libraries have traditionally been included in the system of popularization of scientific and popular science knowledge and carry out this activity along with other social institutions of science, culture and education. Coordinated work of scientific libraries with direct suppliers of scientific knowledge – scientists and scientific organizations – will make it possible to achieve more effectively the goals of popularization activities by combining information, personnel, material and other resources, as well as the channels of disseminating information.

The idea of web archiving, pioneered in 1996 as a way to preserve web content for future researchers, has remained important in the 21st century. It is evident by the significant number of web archives, the development of web archiving software and tools, and increased awareness of initiatives to preserve the internet-resources, introducing changes in the legislation of some countries to provide access to historical web content.

Evolving open science information infrastructure increases the number of diverse open access resources (OAR) and improves their functionality. This trend also facilitates new ways for scientific information and data search and analysis, scientometrical studies and science forecasting. Tracking science vectors is determined by the high rates of scientific and technological progress and the need to foresee the possible development scenarios in science and to define its priority vectors based on the processing metadata of scientific articles, data sets, patents, and other documents.

Knowledge organization system for the scientific information space of Russia

The concept of Knowledge Organization Systems (KOS) is introduced. The author describes the activities of the International Society for the Organization of Knowledge (ISKO), as well as the Basic Register of Thesauruses, Ontologies and Classifications (BARTOC) as the most representative registry of KOS. The KOS typology presented in the International Standard is discussed and a simplified KOS typology is proposed.

The experience of the CSAL in creating, maintaining and using the authority file of names of sectoral organizations is discussed. The characteristics of the authority file and information sources are given, methodological solutions for data generation are considered. The authority file is used to improve the quality of bibliographic entries by unifying access points, improving the processes of in- formation exchange and retrieval.
