“Embedded librarian”: A review of literature

The article is based on the methodology of selecting publications for reviewing proposed earlier (see Scientific and Technical Journal. 2022. No. 11. Р. 56–82). This methodology enables to systematize the process of publication selection with the results cited in the protocol. The “embedded librarianship” concept definition is based on the activity component. Three subject vectors are high-lighted in visualization of the study subject scope, namely, librarians in medical environment, librarians in education, and librarians involved in scientific research.

The authors review the book by Prof. N. E. Kalenov, Dr. Sc. in Engineering, who discusses the recent half-century period of computerization and informatization of the Russia’s largest science libraries as the case study of the Library for Natural Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Kalenov’s professional experience illustrates how the modern academic libraries’ have been developing. He includes a lot of scanned documents following the factual vector of advancing library information technologies in Russia, complemented with the his personal comments.

Russian researchers have changed their perception of open science concept comprising open access to current knowledge, studies transparency and open information sharing. The paper is based on the 2021 and 2024 surveys “Open Data Status”, and 2023 and 2025 surveys of the scientists and researchers at the Russian Academy of Sciences Siberian Branch.

The authors examine the two focus areas of the Central Scientific Library of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, namely, information support of scientific research and scientific communication. They are inseparably connected with the library’s history. The library has been always focused on supporting scientific research and research teams. At the present stage, this support is actualized through collection development and acquisition of traditional information resources, online access and databases, through onsite and offsite library services.

The article examines and analyzes the existing information resources on the support of voluntary activity (VA). It is shown that VA participants often lack reliable information about volunteerism, which is scattered across various information resources. To meet their information needs, it is necessary to create a single information resource that will help not only motivate VA participants to implement socially significant programs and projects, but also attract new participants in VA.
