“Theater Departments” in the Funds of Siberian Libraries in the Pre-revolutionary Period

The relevance of the topic is due to the wide possibilities of using library funds not only for education and upbringing of an individual, but also for organizing and conducting leisure activities, there providing plays from the fund for amateur performances and special literature to help stage. In some libraries, special theater departments were formed to facilitate the search for such literature. Their study is one of the areas of book culture transformation research in social communications of the 19th – 21st centuries.

Based on pre-revolutionary sources, the article presents the activities of the library and the Library Society of employees and workers of the Perm (Motovilikhinsky) cannon factories for the period 1907–1915 for the first time. The regulatory documents, regulating their activities during this period, are analyzed.

The author describes in detail the first years of the main scientific library in Smolensk Guberniya in the early 20-th century, namely Smolensk State University Library. The author was motivated by the absence of the complete picture of academic librarianship in the region; the issue is also insufficiently covered in the literature. The author applies the methods of comparative analysis and synthesis. The research is based on published and unpublished materials: documents in the State Archive of Smolensk Region; Rare Collection of Smolensk University Library; and scholarly papers.

Forming conceptual ideas on the librarianship early history in M. I. Slukhovsky’s works

The article is devoted to analysis of the socio-cultural concept origin and formation at the early history of the domestic library science, which main principal positions were proposed by M. I. Slukhovsky. It analyzes Slukhovsky’s professional development as a library scientist and a historian; overviews his major works on the librarianship history. The main emphasis is on a trilogy on the history of librarianship and bibliology in the XI-XVIII centuries.

The article is devoted to the history of origin and development of factory libraries in countryside of Vladimirskaja province, which practically were not investigated earlier. The author considers the main statistical indicators of reading rooms activities and analyzes their necessity and influence on the local population. The role of manufacturers in education of workers is shown.
