This article examines the phenomenon of informal education as a key component of continuous professional development, particularly in the context of research. The aim of the study is to define the concept of “informal education of researchers” and identify the role of libraries in this process.
The concept of Open Science (OS) is being actively developed through the efforts of its key actors which constitute the OS information ecosystem. The purpose of the study is to substantiate the areas of research library activity within the open science information ecosystem taking into account the interaction with other actors.

Information and analytical competence (IAC) is one of the key professional competencies of a librarian. Its high level of proficiency allows librarians to effectively find relevant information and data, evaluate them, process, interpret and promptly present them in accordance with user preferences. Despite the fact that various aspects of information and analytical activities are reflected in scientific publications on the topic, the issue of developing the IAC of a library specialist remains poorly investigated.
Altmetric methods enable to facilitate assessing research results on the basis of their citations and use by other users. The author addresses Current Research Information Systems (CRIS) as the core resources to reflect research output of individual research institutions. The purpose of her study is to analyze the experience of applying altmetrics in foreign CRIS. Besides, she reviews the studies in altmetrics and characterizes in brief altmetric indicators and their providers.
Open access journals are widespread, including the field of library science. The purpose of the article is, basing on the results of the analysis of foreign journals on library science topics, to prepare a list of journals for potential publishing Russian scientists’ articles in them. The selection of journals was carried out on the platforms Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), Dimensions, Lens.org and Scimago Journal & Country Rank.
The development of an open science information infrastructure requires the presence of highly qualified library staff. He should be capable of responding to and interested in changes in science and technology, able to create innovative information products and make them available to the public, organize new forms of interaction with scientists, implement educational programs, and advise on associated with the concept of open science.
The issue of reflecting the scientific achievements of individual scientists and the results of research activities of research teams in the information environment is of great importance for many branches of science and practice, including medicine, where open data can improve the provision of medical care and influence healthcare policy. The effectiveness of search queries and the further effective use of the data obtained in research and practice, especially during epidemics and the treatment of serious diseases, largely depend on accessibility of medical information.
The modern science depends in many ways on efficient provision of fast, quality access to published research findings. The universities have been developing their institutional repositories that are mostly based on open-source software used in over 66% repositories, OpenDOAR reports. For their digital archives, these organizations choose between various possibilities: purchasing licenses, developing their own or using the open-source software.
