We examine the methodological and epistemological consequences of the visual turn in historical cognition. It is noted that the ongoing transformation of research practices is systemic in nature and is not limited to a simple expansion of the source base of historical science. Special attention is paid to the consideration of historical knowledge through the prism of bodily and present sensory experience. Philosophical reﬂection focuses not on technology as such, but on changing the form of the very existence of historical knowledge.

The presented article examines the philosophical foundations of the visual turn in historical science. The author examines the influence of this phenomenon on the transformation of historical methodology and research approaches through the prism of research on cult architecture. The visual turn, as shown in the article, plays one of the key roles in the formation of new paradigms of historical knowledge, which is expressed both in the integration of visual sources and in the construction and adaptation of new methods and approaches in modern historiography.

The first issue of the modernized Medium Tables of the Library Bibliographic Classification (LBC) – the national classification system of the Russian Federation – was published in 2001. They were to systematize literature on the social and human sciences, including history. Their analysis was made. The revision and clarification of the conceptual apparatus were performed, the historical periodization was clarified, the ideological division was eliminated.
