The author substantiates the application of transdisciplinary approach to the book typology studies. While emphasizing the relevancy of these studies, she reviews the theoretical aspects of the book definition and typological features as they appear in the article by Yury V. The relevant regulatory and legal documents that defined the library operation and development, as well as the Academy’s and School’s annual reports, made the basis of the study.

The article is a tribute to Arkady Vasilyevich Sokolov, Russian scientist, professor, Doctor of Science in pedagogy, researcher in the field of librarianship, informatics and social communications theory. Beside the professional relations, there was friendship of many years between Sokolov and the author.

The author addresses Current Research Information Systems (CRIS) as the core resources to reflect research output of individual research institutions. The purpose of her study is to analyze the experience of applying altmetrics in foreign CRIS. Besides, she reviews the studies in altmetrics and characterizes in brief altmetric indicators and their providers.
