The article is a tribute to outstanding Russian scholar, Arkady V. Sokolov. The author discusses his contribution to library science, bibliography, informatics and social communications, and his pedagogical activity. The author cites Sokolov’s disciples highly appraising his pedagogical efforts. He possessed the gift of polemist and orator, had an artistic streak. He respected his opponents which was reflected in the style of discussions. The author appeals to his colleagues’ reviews – O. P. Korshunov, Y. N. Stolyarov, A. N. Vaneev – with whom Arkady Sokolov debated in professional periodicals. The author analyzes the discussion he had with Sokolov on the issues of crisis in library education. He concludes that Arkady Vasilyevich Sokolov was a true scholar, educator, pedagogue, intelligent person, and his disciples must preserve and transfer his legacy to the young library professionals.
