Perspectives of Scientometric Evaluation of Popular Scientific Journals

Popular scientific journals have a special part in a wide range of different periodicals due to their popularization targets, large readership varying from pupils to researchers, special design, style and language aimed at making understandable the most complicated information. Therefore, studying popular scientific journals comprises the analyses of their special features, e.g., genre, typography, linguistic, and so on. Much less frequently one uses scientometric tools primarily applied to the study of academic journals.

The study of thematic communities within the Russian mathematicians co-authorship graphs

The author proposes an approach to study special interest communities based on the graph of researchers carrying up studies within the same discipline. The co-authorship graphs are the constructs of scientific collaborations popular owing the initial apparent “acquaintance” of the researchers documented in their articles. Many real networks are characterized by the clusterization, which means that the graph topology, as a real network model, is organized in communities, i. e. subgraphs with more internal connections than external ones.

The authors explore the significant changes in traditional bibliometrics, including distinctive innovations in this area. Advancement of e-publications and increasing role of open access systems are among the most significant developments. New approaches to providing access to feed scientific data are discussed. The governmental agencies has been increasingly encouraging the publication activity assessment, as well as design and development of the analogous national platforms, e.g. Russian Science Citation Index, eLIBRARY, and NEL.

The authors discuss the experience of Russia and the CIS countries in designing analytics systems for assessing research outcome of researchers and organizations and facilitating decision making in science. The scientometric analysis based on the indicators of research funding, staff training, publication activity, etc., was accomplished to characterize the post-Soviet science space. The authors attempt to classify the existing CRIS-systems and similar solutions. Based on their study, the authors conclude on the positive trend in analytics systems design in these countries.

The authors explore the significant changes in traditional bibliometrics, including distinctive innovations in this area. Within the five-year period (2019– 2024), two processes have had a significant impact on the methods and technologies: these are the COVID-19 pandemic period (recognition of the importance of open research outcomes) and the period of sanctions (an attempt to exclude Russia from the global scientific process). The authors review in brief the improvements of existing methods, e. g. the introduction of the system of beamplot diagrams and research-based citation analysis.

Bibliometric analysis of scientific cooperation in the studies of moral dilemmas and moral choice

The authors attempt the bibliometric and scientometric approach toward analysis of scientific cooperation in research of moral dilemmas and moral choice using Scopus bibliometric tools. The sector-specific dimension of the studies of moral dilemmas and moral choice is considered. The authors conclude that the share of psychological journals on the subject has significantly increased with dominating psychological research problems (in contrast to the traditional philosophical dimension).

The article gives the document flow characteristics on the problem of libraries methodical activity for 2008-2013 based on the documents bibliometric analysis, as well as on generalization, comparison, and a typological method. The author gets a representation on the microflow quantitative changes, its thematic, specific, geographical and publishing structures, and printing activity of certain researchers. Microflows of non-periodical editions (books and brochures) and articles from periodicals are considered separately from each other. Articles prevail in the flow.

The main directions of the International Conference «STI 2017: Open indicators: innovation, participation and actor-based STI indicators» (Paris, 6-8 September 2017) were the following according to the author's opinion: survey of geographical features, patterns of the science development and a choice of adequate indicators to evaluate these features and patterns; as well as development of new methods for data processing, sharing, analysis and use to assess science and technology.
