Professional ethics as a manifestation of the relationship between the professional code (the regulator of relations between people) and business etiquette (the regulator of conduct rules) are considered.
The article is carried out in the frameworks of studying the problem of reading and readers typology related to the characteristics of a type of reading called a creative one. Under creative reading (as opposed to other types) fiction can be used in research activity. It is proved that the use of fiction is a scientific method for creative readers, and many scientists, including psychologists, successfully use it.
The material presents the views of the chairs and members of the dissertation councils at the KazGIK, MGIK, SPGIK and RSL on the specialty 05.25.03 indicated in the title on four issues: 1. Are you confident in the future of your dissertation council? What is your confidence or anxiety related to? 2. What do you think are the problems of modern library science, bibliography and book studies? 3. There are only 4 dissertation councils on the specialty – 03.25.03 – in Russia: in Kazan, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Khimki. Do you think this is sufficient for the development of our industry? 4.

New technologies and net services developed and implemented by the Library for Natural Sciences of RAS (LNS RAS) are considered. They are based on new approaches to information and library processes. Among them are the network technology for centralize acquisition; scanning acquired book titles, abstracts and contents and including their images in OPAC, forming virtual book exhibitions etc. Attention is paid to the main directions of research and services development in academic institutions’ libraries, managed by LNS RAS.
