Today, as the information society evolves and libraries undergo digital transformation, there is a pressing need to find a balance between the vast volume of electronic information and the personalized needs of users. Existing traditional information retrieval models are no longer able to cope with the complex networks of user interactions with information resource objects and do not fully explore the deep connections between user preferences and content.

Increasing quality of automated patent search based on distributional semantics and bibliographic data

The authors describe the approach to increasing quality of automated patent search and emphasize the inefficiency of existing systems. The approach is based on automated formulation of query terminological vector out from the application text with its further extension with quasisynonyms from the distributional thesaurus built on the body of patent documents, and with further enrichment with bibliographic data – IPC (international Patent Classification) codes.

Within the framework of R&D project “Information support of research by scientists and specialists on the basis of RNPLST Open Archive as the system of scientific knowledge aggregation”, the RNPLS&T carries on the analysis of general characteristics and features of and defining standard requirements for the LIS search interfaces. The author attempts to develop the array of the requirements for modern web-based interfaces of e-catalogs, to classify and formulate them more specifically, and to substantiate these requirements.

The impact of digital communications and the Internet on the indexing methods in the information environment, including the libraries, is emphasized. The experience of the CSAL in creating, maintaining and using the authority file of names of sectoral organizations is discussed. The characteristics of the authority file and information sources are given, methodological solutions for data generation are considered. The authority file is used to improve the quality of bibliographic entries by unifying access points, improving the processes of in- formation exchange and retrieval.

Within the R&D program “Information support of research by scientists and specialists on the basis of RNPLS&T Open Archive – the system of scientific knowledge aggregation”, the RNPLS&T analyzes the use of linguistic tools of thematic search in the modern library information systems and the prospects for their development.
