What dataset is and why the libraries need it

The authors examine the concept of datasets intended for machine learning of algorithms / synthetic neuronet models, i. e. artificial intelligence (AI) models. Russian Federation pursues the Strategy for Information Society for 2017–2030, with the goal to build knowledge society. Today the libraries have been accumulating, preserving and disseminating knowledge, and in the context of datasets, providing the strategy concept.

The authors analyze the materials in librarianship generated with artificial intelligence (AI). They demonstrate that AI generates the texts very close to the common style and format of publications in the area. The goal of the article is to warn the users of the AI-generated works and possibly, to prevent violation of publishing ethics. The authors undertook comprehensive comparison to evaluate the quality and similarity of text materials, and application of the generated predictive text (GPT) technology in librarianship. The advantages and disadvantages of both approaches are revealed.

The subject of the article is automated systems worked out by the Library for Natural Sciences (LNS) specialists: the expert system of acquisition, the publications` ordering system supported by RFBR, virtual exhibitions. In all these systems, the user is provided with the access to bibliographic descriptions and electronic samples of editions` pages from LNS funds.
