The Apiaceae family holds a significant market share, currently dominated by open-pollinated varieties. This results in a lack of uniformity and suboptimal quality, necessitating the development of F1 hybrids. Breeding challenges associated with manual flower emasculation have compelled breeders to employ biotechnological approaches, including somatic hybridization, which leverage traits of self-incompatibility and male sterility.

Tomato crops are susceptible to a significant number of diseases that reduce both yield and product quality, requiring the improvement of genetic diversity and the creation of genetically resistant varieties. Solanum sisymbriifolium Lam. is a source of resistance to bacterial wilt, verticillium wilt, root nematodes, carmine spider mites and late blight. The hybridization of tomato and sticky nightshade is feasible, but involves difficulties in overcoming prezygotic and postzygotic barriers to non-crossing.

Improving the efficiency of doubled haploid technology is an urgent task to expand the possibilities of fundamental research and to increase the selection rate of commercial F1 hybrids. This study investigated the effect of the components of the induction nutrient medium: casein hydrolyzate ( 250 mg/l and 500 mg/l ) , glutathione ( 10 mg/l) , a combination of growth regulators TDZ ( 0.04 mg/l) and 2,4-D ( 0.15 mg/l) on the gynogenic response of cucumber in unfertilized ovules culture.

Isolated microspore culture is the main method of producing doubled rapeseed haploids and is widely used in research institutions and commercial companies. The protocol of rapeseed embryo production is well developed and efficient for many genotypes, but some issues remain due to the low regeneration frequency of plantlets from embryos.

Chinese cabbage is a multivitamin vegetable crop and it is in constant demand due to its taste and dietary qualities, as well as the ability to harvest this crop twice a year due to the short growing season. There are less than 70 cultivars and hybrids in the State Register of Russia, many of them are susceptible to clubroot caused by soil pathogen P.brassicae Wor. In Russia, consumer demand needs to be met with new competitive hybrids that are resistant to major diseases such as clubroot.

Accelerated breeding of heterosis hybrids is provided by a complex of modern biotechnological and molecular-genetic methods. Cytoplasmic male sterility (CMS) is used to control hybridization in the industrial production of F1-hybrid seeds and for additional copyright protection.
