Grain quality assessment of winter soft wheat collection samples at Moscow Agricultural Academy

The article presents the results of the study of winter wheat varieties in terms of grain quality. The study was conducted in 2022–2023 at the Field Experimental Station of Russian State Agrarian University – Moscow Timiryazev Agricultural Academy. The common methods of laboratory research of physical, biochemical and baking qualities of grain were used. The meteorological conditions of the study years varied influencing the grain quality of winter wheat. In 2022, precipitation was relatively evenly distributed against the background of elevated air temperature.

Field experiments with soft wheat and malting barley, conducted on sod-podzolic medium loamy soil showed that under the influence of increasing rates of nitrogen nutrition in the leaf juice in the first stem node phase, the concentration of amino acids decreases. This fact is confirmed by high correlation coefficients. There is also a close correlation between the concentration of amino acids in the leaf juice, plant productivity and grain quality indicators.

Influence of nutrition mode and phytoregulators (novosil, epin) on grain quality and proteins composition of brewing barley grown on sod-podzolic soil

Field experiments with brewing barley carried out on sod-podzolic medium-loamy soil found that the raising doses of nitrogen application increase the grain yield of barley (by 18- 44%), total protein content and hordein concentration in grain, a-amylase and catalase activity. On the other hand, there was a decrease in the grain unit, globulins, the content of water soluble and non-extractable proteins, and fi-amylase activity resulting in negative effect on brewing qualities of barley grain.

Many crops have a very small genetic “base”. The use of a limited number of parental forms reduces the genetic diversity of commercial varieties and exacerbates the problem of their resistance to adverse environmental factors. Induced mutagenesis is one of the means to generate genetic variation in crops in a shorter time compared to crosses and can be used to develop source material for breeding and new varieties with high yields, excellent product quality, resistance to climate change and tolerance to biotic and abiotic stresses.

The article analyzes the results of the studies to assess the role of weather conditions in the formation of gluten in spring wheat grain in the conditions of the Krasnoyarsk forest-steppe. The researchers carried out the work based on the experiments conducted in the educational farm “Minderlinskoe” of Krasnoyarsk State Agrarian University in 2013-2021. At the present stage in Siberia, it is not always possible to equate high yields with good grain qualities. More often, there is a negative trend.

The article presents the results of studies on the evaluation of legume precursors (soybeans, peas, lupin, chickpeas), methods of primary tillage, and plant protection during spring wheat cultivation in the conditions of chernozem soils of the Middle Volga region. Studies have shown that the studied precursors had different growing season duration and water consumption, which provided different water regimes and accumulation of productive moisture in the soil and ultimately affected the productivity of spring wheat.

Development of new winter wheat breeding material using Hungarian varieties for the Central region of the Russian Federation

The aim of the study was to develop a new breeding material combining resistance to the main harmful diseases with high yield potential and good baking qualities of the grain. Productive, winterhardy winter wheat varieties of the FRC “Nemchinovka” breeding line, well adapted to the central region of the Russian Federation, and productive short-stemmed varieties of Hungarian selection with resistance to European populations of rust fungi, powdery mildew, fusarium and leaf spots were selected as parental components for crossing.
