Innokentij Ivanovich Tyzhnov as a translator of N. Witsen’s Siberian materials

Vitsen in his book «Noord en Oost Tartarye» (Amsterdam, 1705) and known today as the «The description of Siberia by Nikiphorus Venyukov». Considered are textual differences of the Dutch original and Russian translation made by I. I. Tyzhnovym. The role of I. I. Tyzhnov’s work for literary history «Siberia Description» is determined.

It states the significant difference in the patterns of book distribution of central and regional publishing houses; identifies key directions of book distribution: book assignment and book trade. University book publishing as the most important player of the regional book market distributes its products without applying book trade to provide the education process. Book assignment is typical for publishers working «under the order».

We surveyed sociologists actively publishing in the Russian language (N = 810). Subjects were asked to respond to a hypothetical situation in which they were to assess CVs of a fictional applicant for a grant competition. Attributes of scholars comprising a standard academic biography differed markedly both in their salience and in the degree of consensus about their importance.
