Evaluation of breeding qualities of hog producers using the BLUP method

The paper presents the approbation results of the program “Assessment of the breeding value of hogs using the BLUP method” developed by All-Russian Research Institute of Pedigree Breeding (VNIIplem) in cooperation with LLC “Selikom” (Ryazan). The authors show some factors affecting the breeding value of the animals and give the basic provisions of their genetic evaluation with the method of best linear undistorted prediction (BLUP).

Isolation of specific bacteriophages - Pseudomonas savastanoi pv. glycinea - and their use in soybean bacterial blight control

Bacterial blight is one of most harmful diseases of legumes, reducing the profitability of soybean production in Russian Federation. Among a number of Pseudomonas isolates obtained from diseased seeds and plants of soybean, 4 strains were selected and confirmed as Pseudomonas savas-tanoi pv. glycinea (Psg). Properties of the isolated bacteria were similar to type strain of Psg CFBP 2214 in plant virulence, LOPAT tests, and PCR analysis for coronafacate ligase gene, and partly -in the phage reaction profile.

Individual sensitivity of brood mares’ blood cells to modulated ultrasound

The authors prove a possibility of laboratory diagnostics of early stages of pregnancy in female horses. Exposure of a temperature-controlled mare blood samples to standing amplitude-modulated ultrasonic wave with a generation frequency of 0.88 MHz, an intensity of 0.05 W/cm 2 and a modulation frequency from 10 to 20 Hz for 15-20 sec leads to a significant change in the morphological state of blood cells.

The article is dedicated to the memory of the honored agronomist, PhD (Ag) Vladimir Ivanovich Susov. The article describes the contribution of V.I. Susov in the development of agronomic measures for the cultivation of fruit trees traditional for the middle zone of the European part of Russia (apple, pear, cherry, plum) and less common ones (apricot, quince, peach, walnut and many other valuable trees). The article is dedicated to the 85th anniversary of V.I. Susov.

Parameters of the intervention policy in the wheat market

The article solves the problem of updating the parameters of the policy of purchasing and commodity interventions in the Russian wheat grain market. These parameters are the recommended range of the intervention fund size and the corresponding price interval, outside which interventions are necessary (commodity beyond the upper boundary and purchase beyond the lower boundary). The applied methodology is based on the updated simulation model of the intervention policy on the wheat market, previously developed at the Center for Agro-Food Policy of the RANEPA.

The principle of a quantitative-qualitative approach, which reflects the activity of the organism while distinguishing its specific and non-specific adaptive responses, includes the requirement for quantitative assessment of specific changes in the body. Seasonal employment of agricultural workers is one of the key issues of social regulation of the sector. Currently in Russia there is no definition of this category of workers at the legislative level, nor are there any measures for their social protection. Therefore, it is necessary to use the most advanced methods of grain preservation for the most complete preservation of the original feeding power. Such methods in recent years include the technology of sealed storage of raw fodder grain harvested before the complete maturation phase. Various biological and chemical additives are used to improve the preservation results.

Effect of silicon-containing fertilizers on tomato and cucumber yields under conditions of low-volume hydroponics

The effect of different silicon-containing fertilizers (NanoKremniy, Siliplant, biostimulant “Bona Forte” and sodium silicate) on the growth, development and yield of hybrids of cucumber Byorn F1 and tomato Merlis F1 was studied under conditions of low-volume hydroponics. The studies showed that carrying out foliar feeding of tomato resulted in earlier production and reliable yield increase of 6.5–8.0 kg/m 2 by increasing the number of fruits by 10–12% and the average fruit weight by 18–23%.
