The purpose of the article is to present methods and results of the pilot study of forming professional values of student librarians. The relevance of the article is associated with the need to bring the library profession out of the state of anomie and the need to modernize not only the technology of library work, but also the value characteristics of the professional picture of the world of a librarian. The process of forming professional values of young people begins during the period of study in specialized classes of senior school, but complete formation occurs during vocational training and at the beginning of the professional career. The conducted pilot study of professional values showed the correctness of the hypothesis about the stage-by-stage formation of professional values in the chain “school – secondary professional education – high education – professional activity”. The survey involved students of different courses of correspondence and full-time education. It was found that students were satisfied with their education, but due to certain reasons they did not want to work in their specialty, considering education as a stage of personal development and planning to build their professional activities in the organizations with the higher payment level. Library education gives young people a high degree of confidence that they will adapt to any type of activity. The practical significance of the work is in the study of the professional values of librarians and the proposal to conduct an interregional study.
