Media-space and media-consumption and modifications in reading in the Russian society are described. On the basis of the sociological data analysis dynamics and features of transformation in motivation and nature of contemporaries leisure reading, the leading factors influencing reading and the main trends in media consumption are shown. The special attention is paid to the role and meaning of reading in the structure of media preferences among the young generation.
