Analysis of selection and genetic parameters in Yorkshire and Landrace pigs

Calculating selection and genetic parameters is an important step in improving economically significant genetic traits, particularly in pig breeding. These calculations determine the breeding strategies for assessing the breeding value of animals. This article presents the results of developing linear mixed models to assess variance components and predict breeding values in Yorkshire and Landrace pigs for the following traits: the number of piglets born alive (NBA), the average birth weight (ABW) per, and the average daily weight gain (ADWG) until reaching 100 kg.

Estimating breeding value of bull sires based on complex indicators of their daughters’ lactation performance

This paper is aimed at improving the system of assessing the breeding value of bulls by set complex indicators of their daughters’ lactation performance. The authors carried out studies using a database for first-calving cows of black-motley population of the Moscow region for the period 2011-2015. The authors used a previously optimized structure as the initial equation of the BLUP mixed model for assessing the genetic features of bull sires for each indicator of their daughters ’ lactation performance.

Dynamics of genetic changes in sires according to their daughters’ milk productivity in the pale dairy cattle population

The studies are dedicated to the evaluation of changes in the genetic status of the pale dairy cattle population and its constituent breeds (Simmental and Red-and-White breed) on the main traits of milk productivity for the period from 1994 to 2017. Throughout the analysis period, a very moderate but positive trend was observed in the improvement of the genetic potential of these animal groups through the use of sires.
